Home-Based Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation in Major Depressive Disorder: a Multi-Centre, Two-Parallel Group, Superiority Randomised Controlled Trial

ClinicalTrials.gov11/14/2025ยท11/14/25๐ŸŒ Europe

Summary

Depression is a prevalent and debilitating disorder. The most common treatments are antidepressant medications and talking therapies. However, for many individuals, these are not their treatment of choice. Furthermore, even following a full course of treatment with an antidepressant or talking therapy, over one third of patients continue to be unwell.

Why it matters

This trial represents an important advancement in neurotechnology for treating Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). If successful, the device-based intervention could provide a new therapeutic option for patients who have not responded adequately to conventional treatments or therapies. The study results may inform future regulatory approval pathways and establish clinical precedent that could benefit broader patient populations with similar conditions.
