Chinese BCI Company Weiling Medical Raises Over RMB 100M for Implantable Brain-Computer Interface

Summary

Shenzhen-based Weiling Medical closed a funding round of more than RMB 100 million (about $14.8 million), led by Junzhong Capital with Shanghai STAR Market-listed Innotek as the fund's core industrial investor. Founded in 2019 by Li Xiaojian, the company develops fully implantable BCI systems aimed at treating severe brain injuries and neurological disorders, and has already begun investigator-initiated trials for customized implants. Proceeds will fund clinical validation of its core implantable products, medical-device registration filings, manufacturing scale-up, and expansion of clinical applications in neurological function repair.

Why it matters

China's BCI sector has moved rapidly from research toward commercialization this year, and industrial-investor participation (rather than pure financial VCs) signals growing confidence that implantable BCI hardware is nearing real clinical and manufacturing scale.
