Bridge Neurotech Licenses Butterfly Network's Ultrasound-on-Chip in Multi-Year Deal for Non-Invasive BCI
Summary
Bridge Neurotech, which emerged from stealth the same day, and Butterfly Network (NYSE: BFLY) announced a multi-year research and development agreement under which Bridge will license Butterfly's programmable Ultrasound-on-Chip technology, through Butterfly's Embedded licensing and co-development unit, for work on a brain-computer interface that images and decodes brain activity through the skull without surgery or implants. Bridge will pay Butterfly for access to the technology and for development milestones, and has committed to buy Butterfly hardware. Bridge describes its approach as a functional ultrasound imaging platform with AI-based neural decoding, and its first human research study is now enrolling in Redwood City, California.
Why it matters
Building on an existing ultrasound-on-chip platform instead of custom hardware lets a new BCI company concentrate on the hard part, decoding signals through the skull, while giving Butterfly's licensing business a neurotech customer committed to milestone payments and hardware purchases.
