Germany opens €85M neuromorphic computing facility for BCI algorithm development

Deutsche Welle3/30/2026·03/30/26🌐 Europe

Summary

Forschungszentrum Jülich inaugurated its NeuroChip Center, housing Europe's most powerful neuromorphic computing cluster dedicated to BCI signal processing, neural network simulation, and closed-loop neuromodulation algorithm development.

Why it matters

Neuromorphic computing is the natural substrate for processing neural signals. This Jülich facility will accelerate energy-efficient, real-time BCI decoders that can eventually operate within implanted hardware.
