Exploring the Effects of Spinal Cord Stimulation in Parkinson's Disease.

ClinicalTrials.gov5/16/2018ยท05/16/18๐ŸŒ USA

Summary

Parkinson Disease (PD) patients experience a variety of motor issues such as walking difficulties, loss of balance, and freezing while walking, which impacts their quality of life. Some symptoms, like freezing of gait (FOG), do not respond to medications typically used to treat PD. Current surgical procedures used to alleviate PD symptoms also do not always improve FOG.

Why it matters

This trial represents an important advancement in neurotechnology for treating Parkinson Disease. If successful, the device-based intervention could provide a new therapeutic option for patients who have not responded adequately to conventional treatments or therapies. The study results may inform future regulatory approval pathways and establish clinical precedent that could benefit broader patient populations with similar conditions.
