Blackrock Neurotech raises $200M from Tether — majority stake acquired, MoveAgain commercial BCI funded

AllHealthTech11/1/2024·11/01/24🌐 USA

Summary

Crypto company Tether invested $200 million into Blackrock Neurotech in 2024, acquiring a majority stake and valuing the company at approximately $350 million. The investment provided the capital for Blackrock to transition from academic electrode supplier to commercial BCI company, funding the commercial rollout of MoveAgain, R&D on next-generation Neuralace flexible electrodes, and the May 2025 launch of the Axon-R non-invasive AR BCI headset in partnership with Cognixion.

Why it matters

Tether's $200M investment in Blackrock is the most unusual strategic investment in BCI history — a cryptocurrency company acquiring majority control of the world's most experienced BCI hardware manufacturer. The investment has enabled Blackrock to accelerate commercial deployment 3-5 years faster than would have been possible through traditional medtech VC funding, and gives Tether direct exposure to what may become one of the most valuable medical device categories of the 2030s.
