Subsense raises $10M extension for nanoparticle-based brain-computer interface
Summary
Subsense raised $10 million in additional seed funding, bringing total seed capital to $27 million. The Palo Alto-based company is developing the first non-surgical, nanoparticle-based bidirectional brain-computer interface that uses targeted neural stimulation and monitoring via nanoparticles to treat neurodegenerative conditions. The company emerged from stealth in February 2025 with an initial $17 million seed led by Golden Falcon Capital.
Why it matters
Subsense's radically different approach to BCIs uses nanoparticles that bind with brain receptors to achieve connectivity without surgery, potentially overcoming the major adoption barrier of invasive implantation. The company's bidirectional platform could address a wide range of neurological conditions including Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, epilepsy, and depression, while opening longer-term applications in cognitive enhancement and human-AI integration.
