Clinical Trial
Delivering Transcutaneous Auricular Neurostimulation (tAN) to ICU Patients With Traumatic Brain Injury (tAN-TBI)
ClinicalTrials.gov2/11/2025ยท02/11/25๐ USA
Summary
This study delivers transcutaneous auricular neurostimulation (tAN) to ICU patients with traumatic brain injury. The non-invasive device stimulates the auricular branch of the vagus nerve through the ear to reduce neuroinflammation and promote neurological recovery in acute TBI.
Why it matters
Acute TBI care currently lacks neuromodulation interventions that could reduce secondary brain damage. Vagal nerve stimulation through the ear represents a safe, non-invasive approach that could be deployed in any ICU setting to improve outcomes during the critical acute recovery window.
