Efficacy of Biomarker-guided rTMS for Treatment Resistant Depression
Summary
Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a treatment for depression. The investigators are continuing to learn how to optimize outcomes from rTMS treatment. The purpose of this research project is to use brain network connectivity patterns as measured by resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to confirm a way to optimize the use of rTMS to treat depression.
Why it matters
This trial represents an important advancement in neurotechnology for treating Treatment Resistant Depression. If successful, the device-based intervention could provide a new therapeutic option for patients who have not responded adequately to conventional treatments or therapies. The study results may inform future regulatory approval pathways and establish clinical precedent that could benefit broader patient populations with similar conditions.
