At-Home Noninvasive BCI Rehabilitation Improves Upper-Limb Function in Chronic Stroke: Randomized Trial

A randomized trial led by Eric C. Leuthardt, with senior author Leo Petrossian, tested at-home rehabilitation therapy using the IpsiHand noninvasive BCI system in chronic stroke survivors averaging 5.4 years post-stroke. Participants using IpsiHand achieved a mean 6-point improvement on the Fugl-Meyer upper-extremity motor scale, versus 1.5 points with home exercise alone, with 55.5% of IpsiHand users reaching clinically meaningful motor recovery compared to 9.6% in the control group. No serious device-related adverse events occurred.
