Kilohertz frequency spinal cord stimulation reduces opioid use by 64% in chronic pain patients
PubMed3/22/2026ยท03/22/26๐ USA
Summary
A 12-month prospective registry study of 234 chronic back and leg pain patients receiving HF10 kilohertz SCS found 64% reduction in opioid medication use (morphine milligram equivalents), with 31% achieving complete opioid cessation. Pain scores improved by 71% and patient satisfaction exceeded 90% at 12 months across all implanting centers.
Why it matters
Opioid reduction is now arguably the most important clinical outcome for chronic pain interventions given the overdose crisis. A 64% opioid reduction with 31% complete cessation in a large real-world registry reinforces HF10 SCS as an anti-opioid strategy, not just a pain management tool.
