Clinical Trial
High-Definition Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (HD-tDCS) in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis: A Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial
ClinicalTrials.gov11/28/2025ยท11/28/25๐ Global
Summary
This Phase 2/Phase 3 multicenter randomized controlled trial evaluates high-definition transcranial direct current stimulation (HD-tDCS) in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The study delivers targeted non-invasive brain stimulation to the diaphragmatic motor cortex to assess effects on respiratory function and disease progression biomarkers.
Why it matters
Respiratory failure is the primary cause of death in ALS. If HD-tDCS can slow respiratory decline through cortical neuromodulation, it would represent the first non-invasive device therapy that directly addresses the most lethal aspect of this devastating disease.
