Register Study: Implementation of Pharyngeal Electrostimulation Therapy for the Treatment of Acute Neurogenic Dysphagia
ClinicalTrials.gov12/15/2021ยท12/15/21๐ Europe
Summary
This register study evaluates the implementation of pharyngeal electrostimulation therapy for neurogenic dysphagia after stroke. The study monitors real-world outcomes of a portable neuromodulation device that delivers transcutaneous electrical stimulation to the pharynx to restore swallowing function.
Why it matters
Post-stroke dysphagia affects up to 50 percent of stroke survivors and is associated with aspiration pneumonia and mortality. A portable neuromodulation device that improves swallowing could prevent life-threatening complications and accelerate recovery in a large stroke population.
