Clinical Trial
RNS System LGS Feasibility Study
ClinicalTrials.gov10/4/2022ยท10/04/22๐ USA
Summary
This Phase 2 feasibility study evaluates the RNS System for thalamocortical brain-responsive neurostimulation in patients with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a severe form of drug-resistant epilepsy. The implantable device continuously monitors brain activity and delivers targeted electrical stimulation in response to detected seizure precursors.
Why it matters
Lennox-Gastaut syndrome affects approximately 50,000 children and adults in the US with limited treatment options. Responsive neurostimulation targeting the thalamus represents a novel approach for generalized seizures that could significantly reduce seizure burden in this challenging population.
