Bridge Neurotech Emerges From Stealth With $13.5M to Build a Surgery-Free Ultrasound BCI

Summary

Bridge Neurotech, a Silicon Valley startup founded in 2026 by Will Biederman, who developed chip technology Neuralink used in its first implants and co-founded Forest Neurotech, came out of stealth on October 6 with $13.5 million from General Catalyst, reMind Capital, Sunflower Capital, and Scott Sandell. The company is building a brain-computer interface that needs neither surgery nor implants, using ultrasound to read brain activity through the skull, and plans a wearable device; its first human research study is enrolling in Redwood City, California. Coverage of the launch notes that ultrasound tracks neural activity indirectly, through blood-flow changes, so its signal trails direct electrical recording, and that Bridge plans to use predictive AI models to compensate. WIRED, which broke the story, framed Bridge as a rival to Merge Labs, the Sam Altman-backed startup that is also building an ultrasound-based interface.

Why it matters

A surgery-free BCI would widen the potential market well beyond patients willing to have an implant, but reading brain activity through the skull with ultrasound is still unproven at scale, and Bridge's first human study is the early test. With Merge Labs chasing the same modality, ultrasound BCI is turning into a contested category rather than a single-company bet.
