This study examined whether resting-state EEG changes in Alzheimer's disease reflect true oscillatory (periodic) changes, changes in the aperiodic (non-oscillatory) signal, or both. Across two independent datasets, alterations were found to be purely periodic in nature, with decreases in oscillatory power at alpha and beta frequencies in AD. Aperiodic EEG features did not differ between AD and healthy controls.
